Jira
Release Notes Builder for Jira
Turn a fix version into customer-ready release notes, grouped by type, as formatted text, Markdown or HTML.
Pick a fix version and get release notes grouped into new features, improvements and bug fixes. Copy them formatted into Confluence or an email, or download Markdown, HTML or text. Runs entirely on Atlassian.
What it does
- Sections by issue type, renamed and reordered per project
- Sub-tasks, unfinished issues and chosen labels left out, with every left-out issue listed
- A release note field replaces the summary, with bold, italics and links
- Formatted copy, Markdown, HTML and plain text; .md, .html and .txt downloads
- Settings per project, editable by project admins only
Where it appears
- Project sidebar in Jira: Release notes.
How to use it
- Open a Jira project and choose Release notes in the sidebar.
- Pick a fix version.
- Check the left-out list, then copy the formatted notes, or switch to Markdown, HTML or Text and copy or download.
- Project admins: open Settings to rename sections, add labels to leave out, or choose a release note field.
Permissions
The app runs on Atlassian’s Forge platform and declares no permission to contact outside servers. It asks for these scopes:
| Scope | Why |
|---|---|
| read:jira-work | Read versions, issues and fields of the project, as the person using the page. |
| storage:app | Keep each project's release note settings in the app's storage on Atlassian's platform. |
Data and privacy
- What the app stores
- Per project: section names, issue type mapping, labels to leave out and the chosen release note field.
- Personal data
- None.
- Logs
- Error messages only, without issue content.
- Where it lives
- In the app’s storage on Atlassian’s Forge platform, in the same data residency location as your Atlassian site. Nothing is copied to servers outside Atlassian. When the app is uninstalled, Atlassian deletes its storage under Atlassian’s data retention policy.
Details for all apps are in the privacy policy.
Good to know
- Issues are read from the fix version; issues in several versions appear in each of them.
Questions
Who can change the settings?
Project administrators. Jira’s permission check runs on every save.
Does it change our issues?
No. The app only reads issues and versions.
Can it publish the notes automatically?
